Bridging the divide – together

The partnership between Sandvik and Cisco Systems is a match made in mining heaven, delivering productivity and safety improvements to underground mines everywhere.

The future of mining is a digital one. Innovations such as automation and data analysis have been shown to improve safety, productivity and sustainability management in the mining industry. A survey of mining companies conducted by professional services firm EY showed that 84 percent of participants “are considering having, have started or already have digital as part of their day-to-day business”.

Nevertheless, wanting to digitalize your operations and successfully and securely accomplishing the task are two separate issues, and it is critical that mining companies develop a clear approach to bridging the divide.

By offering a pre-integrated and tested solution, customers will benefit from accelerated time to deployment and reduced risk.

It is under these conditions that the partnership between two global leaders in their respective fields was born. With its cutting-edge automated and digitalized mining solutions, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology offers the equipment and knowledge to boost safety and productivity for its customers. And Cisco Systems, world leader in IoT connectivity solutions and network technology, has the expertise, experience and tools to provide reliable and secure network underground. It was a match made in mining heaven.

Merging competencies

“When you think of mining operations, specifically underground mining, for those operations to become more effective and safer they will need the expertise of both companies,” says Jarkko Ruokojärvi, automation global business development manager at Sandvik. “Our collaboration has successfully married mining automation solutions and digitalization applications to robust and reliable connectivity that gets the different resources to communicate and interact with each other.”

It is a classic example of IT/OT convergence, where the integration of information technology systems used for data-centric computing is paired with the operational technology systems used to monitor devices, events and processes. Cisco’s validated design provides an architecture that will ensure a robust, reliable and secure network for Sandvik’s automated equipment to run on.

“Cisco provides the most secure and reliable IoT portfolio on the market. By offering a pre-integrated and tested solution, the customers will benefit from accelerated time to deployment and reduced risk. It’s a win-win-win situation as not only do our two companies benefit, but most importantly so does the customer,” says Charles Ferriera, Design-In partnership manager, Cisco.

A robust network serving powerful equipment

Over the last year, the collaboration has been delivering safety, productivity and cost-effective benefits to customers. Take the Sandvik offering AutoMine®, for instance. It offers autonomous and teleremote control of underground mining equipment to impart these benefits. In order for it to function fluidly, AutoMine requires robust network connectivity. Going forward, further mine digitalization will see an expansion from small dedicated networks to mine-wide ones in order to enable overall optimization of processes.

“In the past, if all you needed to run was a laptop underground you could use any network,” says Ken Vanthielen, Cisco IoT manager of business development. “Now your entire mining operation relies on that network, so it’s extremely important that the network is secure and reliable. We have a reference design in plSandvik AutoMine requires robust network connectivity in order to optimize operationsace the best part of which is that it has been rigorously tested by us and at Sandvik’s underground test mine in Tampere, Finland. So, when customers deploy this solution, we are putting our stamp on it that it is based on a Cisco tested and verified design. We are essentially de-risking their architecture.”

The collaboration presents customers with a high level of knowledge of the communication technologies as well as the automation applications because together, both companies and their solutions address customers’ challenges.

Cisco Systems

Founded in 1984 by Stanford University computer scientists Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, Cisco Systems is an American multinational technology company. Cisco specializes in developing, manufacturing and selling networking hardware, software, telecommunications equipment and other high-tech services and products.

Another such solution – Sandvik OptiMine® – collects and analyzes data to help customers see what is happening and to make informed decisions in real time. By enabling short interval control, customers can measure what all their resources are doing and adjust the process accordingly to make production more effective.

“This type of application needs to have the connectivity to access the real time data transfer between the different types of data sources,” says Ruokojärvi. “Customers’ cost per ton goes down by minimizing any delays and using time more effectively.”

Safety boost

Then there are the safety benefits. With digitalization technology, combining solutions such as proximity detection with strong connectivity where people, equipment and different types of resources operate minimizes accidents. And in the worst-case scenario, if there is an emergency situation, being able to send messages to everyone or coordinate a rescue requires a network that can be easily connected to.

The two companies have only scratched the surface of what their collaboration can do for customers. As the value of automation and digitalization technologies is becoming better understood by the industry, both companies are purposefully designing their joint offering to accommodate for different scenarios that customers have in terms of mining methods and applications, as well as lifecycle stages of the operations.

“Our partnership has much room to grow,” says Vanthielen. “We started from the foundation, which is the underground network, and now we have moved to pre-integrated solutions with Design-In Cisco technology onboard Sandvik equipment. There are still multiple routes we can investigate to enrich the value proposition.”

Digital technology on the cutting edge

Digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data and machine learning are increasingly important to the manufacturing industry. Sandvik has partnered with IBM on several digital key projects.

How will digital activities impact traditional manufacturing?

At Sandvik, work has begun to incorporate Industry 4.0 into its production processes. The Sandvik brand Dormer Pramet, a global cutting-tool manufacturer, is working with IBM, one of the world’s leading data analysis companies, on several key projects.

“These include using large amounts of data to map the value chain throughout every department of our production unit in Sumperk, in the Czech Republic, and incorporating computer software to identify defects in tools during the early stages of manufacture,” says Radim Bullawa, Industry Engineering Manager, at Dormer Pramet.

The Dormer Pramet unit in Sumperk, Czech Republic.

In the first project, advanced algorithms and statistical methods were used to track, over the past two years, every indexable product order, determining how the item moved through the production unit and creating a network model of the entire factory.

Interacting machines

This model described how the machines interacted with each other and showed how any process disruption, such as unscheduled machine downtime, can spread through the entire system. “It identified critical points in the process where small issues can cause major inefficiencies later,” says Radim Bullawa. “All were ranked by severity to help focus on where improvements were needed to optimize performance and achieve the greatest impact.”

All these digital elements and projects aim to enhance our existing high standards of manufacturing.

In the second phase of the project, they looked at the definition of the metrics that quantified issues such as quality, maintenance downtime and compliance with the production plan. These metrics were again analyzed to identify further areas of operational change and suggest specific improvements.

Scanning inserts

Meanwhile, Dormer Pramet is using an IBM inspection station, implemented within a pressing machine, to scan inserts using a series of cameras, lights and moving mechanical elements. This is during the first phase of the production process and can help improve the quality of its products at the very beginning of the manufacturing process.

“An automatic machine image recognition is performed to locate and identify the type and severity of the defect,” added Bullawa. “This detection uses artificial neural networks – a computerized model that improves performance over time. Therefore, its success depends on the accuracy of the recognition.”

This accuracy is influenced by the number of defect images that are input into the system and their variability. Adding as many examples and as much information as possible will continually help to teach the machine what is right and what is wrong on a given product. This not only increases the accuracy of recognition but helps to detect less obvious defects as well as reducing false alarms and identifying problem characteristics.

“All these digital elements and projects aim to enhance our existing high standards of manufacturing capabilities, built on a century of knowledge and expertise,” says Bullawa. “We will use them to further improve our production processes, increase the quality of our cutting tools, reduce waste and advance the service provided to customers.”

Annie 3D organic body cream

We’ve all heard about the benefits of using body lotion, but what’s so different about Annie 3D organic glow body lotion and cream?

For dry and damaged skin, there’s a massive market of healing salves, replenishing creams, and body butters to choose from.

But many lotions contain ingredients like parabens, silicones, synthetic perfumes, and even formaldehyde. That’s why it’s important to carefully consider the ingredients used on – and absorbed by – your skin.

In addition to being a more environmentally-friendly option, Annie organic body lotion is a better way to leave skin softer, smoother, and healthier.

The magic of Annie Organic body cream in less than 10 days of use

Annie 3D Organic Body Cream consists of the following below

  • Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) combats redness, inflammation, and breakouts.
  • Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii) has intensive moisturizing properties and improves dryness, flakiness, and redness.
  • Oats (like colloidal oatmeal) help to calm skin irritations caused by eczema, dryness, and even insect bites.
  • Sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus) is packed with vitamin E, highly absorbent, and non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores).
  • Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) fights bacteria and soothes inflammation, redness, and itchy skin.
  • Vitamin C fights signs of aging while tightening the skin.
  • Vitamin E (often sourced from Tocopheryl acetate) is an antioxidant and intensive moisturizer.
  • Witch hazel helps to fight excess oil while simultaneously moisturizing.

3D Organic glow body soap

In our home, we don’t use antibacterial soap in any form and only use our natural and organic based soap.

I realize this sounds crazy, but we have researched this and our decision is supported by facts and science.

For many, the antibacterial soap that you purchase from the supermarket or pharmacy are too rough on their skin, or their skin doesn’t react well to the chemicals that are found in the soap.

This can cause rashes, irritation, itchiness, and soreness – none of which is pleasant to experience!

The Benefits of Annie Organic soap

#1 Many are Cruelty-Free

One of the great things about using natural organic based soap is that they are usually cruelty-free.

Ours certainly is!

This means that none of the ingredients are tested on animals before they are sold to the public.

Many are dermatologically tested on people’s skin, checking to make sure that it is suitable for those with sensitive skin.

#2 Gentler on the Skin

Natural organic based foaming soap and bar soap, tend to be much gentler on the skin, very ideal for those who have sensitive skin, and also fantastic for children.

Our kids love it! After all, antibacterial soap can dry this skin out, which can be very uncomfortable over time, especially for little ones.

Many people love that natural organic based soap helps to naturally moisturize the skin, keeping your skin and hands soft.

We have received feedback from people with eczema that our natural and organic based Foaming Soap and Bar Soap have helped.

We certainly can’t guarantee that it will help everyone, but it does seem to help some.

#3 No Chemicals or Pesticides

One of the best benefits for you, your children, and your family is that organic soap does not contain any chemicals or pesticides.

All of the ingredients are natural, with any plants or herbs that are used in its production being completely free from any kind of pesticide.

So when you and your child wash their hands, you aren’t being exposed to unnatural chemicals that could be absorbed by their skin.

Annie Organic is aimed at satisfying our clients and customers satisfactions to meet all demands.
